Famous for the World Heritage Site Ainokura Gassho-Zukuri Village, Gokayama, Toyama Prefecture, has been producing handmade washi paper since ancient times. These lovely good-luck charms are made by pressing washi clay, made by reusing scraps from washi production, into a mould. The washi paper is attached to a dried doll, which is then hand-painted to create an adorable lucky charm.
