Dango are Japanese skewered rice dumpling balls, served with 3 dumplings on 1 stick and is often eaten with tea or during traditional events and holidays in Japan.

Hanami Dango is typically eaten during Hanami in the spring time when Sakura (Cherry Blossoms) start to bloom, with each coloured dumpling representing a stage of the cherry blossom season (in order):

  • Pink: cherry buds before blooming
  • White: fully bloomed cherry blossoms
  • Green: leaves of the cherry blossoms after falling
