Fukukan/Fortune Can - Oku Papier-Mâché Snake
In Setouchi, there is an old tradition of giving a papier-mache tiger to a newborn baby in hopes that they will grow up strong and healthy. Takehisa Mori Shoten not only makes papier-mâché dolls of tigers, but also of the twelve Chinese zodiac animals. The dolls are made using the blowing technique, and after being removed from the mold, they are dried in the sun before being carefully hand-painted one by one.
